Internship and Co-op Pre-Work Checklist

  • Complete the Employment Survey to let us know when and where you'll be working and what kind of credit—if any—you plan to earn during your work experience.
  • If desired, talk to an Engineering Career Envoy to get a student's perspective on internship and co-op experiences.
  • If you are registered for credit for your internship or co-op, consult with your academic adviser or a Department Career Contact to confirm how you can use the credits toward your major.
  • If you will complete an internship or co-op experience during a fall or spring semester before you have completed the entrance-to-major process, consult with an academic adviser to see how your absence could impact this process.
  • If you are an international student, work with your ISSA adviser to address any special requirements or conditions associated with completing an internship or co-op in the U.S.
  • If you will be graduating during the semester when you complete your internship or last co-op rotation, please let us know as soon as possible.
  • If you receive financial aid, connect with an adviser in Student Aid to determine if/how your aid package could be affected by your internship or co-op experience.
  • If you are working on site, check with your employer about any housing assistance that may be provided for interns or co-op participants. If no assistance is provided, start to look for housing in the location where you will be working.
  • Contact your employer to confirm important details or requirements for your first work day (e.g., appropriate attire, start time, necessary paperwork).
