Engineering Career Fair

Wednesday, January 23, 2019
1:00–6:00 p.m.
The Nittany Lion Inn

The Engineering Career Fair is the premier spring recruiting event in the College of Engineering. Representatives from a wide variety of companies and government agencies from around the country attend the Fair to recruit Penn State engineering students for co-op, internship, and entry-level full-time positions.

All undergraduate and graduate students in the College of Engineering, as well as students in engineering majors in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences, are welcome at this event, as are engineering alumni and engineering students from other universities.

Suggested attire is business professional. Since no student coat check will be provided, please take only what you need for the Fair and plan to carry personal items. Coats and boots may be left in the Faculty Staff Club at your own risk.

How to Prepare

  • Find out which employers are registered to attend and learn more about them by looking at their websites and social media (searchable list available in January 2019).
  • Practice your 30-second introduction—including your name, student status (first-year, graduating senior, etc.), major and minor, professional interests and goals, and reasons for interest in the company—so you are ready to make the right first impression on recruiters.
  • Prepare an up-to-date résumé.

What to Take

  • A nice quality portfolio with a pad and pen
  • 10-15 copies of your up-to-date résumé along with an electronic version

Be aware that, due to fair hiring policies, recruiters from many companies and organizations are prohibited from accepting résumés directly from job-seekers and may instead encourage you to apply for specific positions via the company website. However, even if a recruiter is unable to accept a résumé, you can still use it as a point of reference while talking to the recruiter, as it can help you to recall and highlight specific skills and experiences.

Check-In

Student check-in will be in The Nittany Lion Inn Rotunda.

Fair volunteers will swipe your Penn State student ID card when you check in, which will allow Engineering Career Resources & Employer Relations staff to collect basic demographic information about Fair attendees (e.g., major). This kind of information is often requested by our recruiters.

If you don't have a Penn State ID card, or you don't have yours available, please present a driver's license or other student ID card.
