Former Engineering Career Envoy Kimberlee McKitish, PE, LEED Green Assoc, has been named Young Engineer of the Year by the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers (PSPE). The annual award recognizes an outstanding engineer no older than age 35, and considers collegiate achievements, professional and technical society activities, engineering experience, publications, project achievements, and additional activities including civic involvement and humanitarian endeavors.

McKitish was raised in Allentown, PA, and graduated from Allentown Central Catholic High School in 2004. She attended the Pennsylvania State University, where she earned an Integrated Bachelors/Masters of Architectural Engineering in 2008. McKitish became a licensed structural engineer in 2014, and is also a certified LEED Green Associate through the US Green Building Council (USGBC). She has been with NuTec Design since January 2010, and manages the firm’s structural engineering department.

A regular speaker at national industry conferences, she will be presenting “Learn to Be Selfish” at the Women in Design+Construction Conference in Scottsdale, AZ, in November. The event is hosted by Building Design+Construction, one of the architectural, engineering, and construction industry’s top publications. Previously she spoke at the annual conferences of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) and National Council of Structural Engineering Associations (NCSEA), in addition to presenting at events of the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers, Lincoln Chapter and Penn State Women in Engineering Program.

McKitish has also authored several articles for national industry publications, including “Thinking Outside the Wooden Box” in the June 2016 issue of STRUCTURE magazine and “Building Rapport with Senior Leadership: A Millennial’s View” in the September 2015 issue of A/E Marketing Journal. She is active in her profession, having volunteered for the USGBC Central PA, ACE Mentoring, Future City, and Green Drinks York.

Prior recognition bestowed upon McKitish includes Young Engineer of Central Pennsylvania, awarded by the Central Pennsylvania Engineers Week Council in January 2017, Rising Star Award, given by the USGBC Central PA in October 2015, and New Faces of Engineering, Professional Nominee, by the National Society of Professional Engineers in April 2016.
