Pre-Work Checklist

You’ve accepted an internship position.  Congratulations!

Here are the things you need to do now:

  • First, complete the Employment Survey.
  • If desired, talk to a Graduate Career Envoy to get a student’s perspective on the internship experience.
  • If you are an international student, work with your adviser in the University Office of Global Programs to address any special requirements or conditions associated with completing an internship in the U.S.
  • If you will be graduating during the semester when you complete your internship, please let us know as soon as possible.
  • If you receive financial aid, meet with an adviser in the Office of Student Aid about how your aid package could be affected by your internship or co-op experience.
  • Check with your employer about any housing assistance that may be provided for interns.  If no assistance is provided, start to look for housing in the city where you will be working.
  • Contact your employer to confirm important details or requirements for your first day on the job (e.g., appropriate dress, start time, paperwork) to ensure that you get off to a good start in your workplace.
  • Follow us on Facebook and Twitter for career news and updates.
