Engineering Reverse Career Fair

Tuesday, April 6, 2021
2:00–5:00 p.m. (EST)
via Brazen Careers
Register to Participate

The Engineering Reverse Career Fair gives talented student, faculty, and staff leaders from engineering student organizations, research centers, and diverse programs the opportunity to educate employers about their organizations, centers, and programs. A wide spectrum of employers participate in this event—spanning many industries—with interests in hiring students from and/or collaborating with groups representing a variety of engineering majors. A listing of participating employers will be provided prior to the event.

This event is free for participating student leaders, faculty, and staff members; however, registration is required.

PLEASE NOTE: Unlike many other College of Engineering career events, this event is not open to the general engineering student population.

Suggested Attire

If possible, wear a top featuring the logo of your student organization, lab, research center, or office. Otherwise, business casual attire is recommended (see our suggestions for women's and men's business casual outfits on Pinterest). Since the event is virtual, what you wear above the waist is more important than what you wear below unless you plan to stand and be fully visible during the event.

Preparation

A student organization leader training on how to be successful during this event will be available via Brazen careers later in March 2021.

Prior to the event, leaders should ensure that web-based information about their organization or group is up-to-date, including:

  • A description of the organization or group (e.g., mission/purpose, demographics, target populations)
  • A schedule of weekly, semesterly, and annual events hosted by the group or organization (if possible)
  • Information about employer engagement opportunities, including sponsorship
  • Email contact links for current organization or group leadership (e.g., president, director, employer outreach coordinator)

Ensure that all participating representatives from your organization or group know how to use Brazen Careers before the event.

During the Event

  • Plan to have at least two representatives who are knowledgeable about your organization or group available throughout the event to engage with employers and answer questions.
  • Position yourself in front of a plain, non-distracting background (a blank wall is best). If you use a virtual background, choose something simple and professional.
  • Log into the event (using your Penn State ID and password) a few minutes before it starts.
  • Leave your video camera on throughout the event.
  • When you meet with a new employer, introduce yourself (name, major/area of study/research, role in the group or organization) and ask what the employer would like to know. Remember to smile!
  • Take notes during your discussions. Keep a record of who you talked to and what you talked about. Request contact details so you can follow up if needed.

Follow-Up

Within 3 business days, be sure to get in touch with any employers who requested additional information, materials, or contacts.
